Brunnera macrophylla

Common Name:
Heartleaf brunnera, Siberian bugloss
Bloom color:
Clear blue-lilac
Height:
10-12”
Bloom:
April-May
Hardiness:
Zone 3-7
Light:
Partial to full shade
Soil:
Evenly moist, fertile

Why you need this plant:

Provides color in shaded areas early in the season.  Waves of blue, forget-me-not flowers sit atop heart shaped foliage.  Contrasts well with Hostas and ferns because the pale green foliage does not fully develop until summer.

Planting Info:

More forgiving of soil conditions than sun; should be planted in shade, the deeper the better; otherwise foliage will leaf scorch.  Keep plant moist in less than full shade.  Division should not be necessary for at least six years.
