Panicum virgatum 'Shenendoah'

Common Name:
Red Switch Grass
Bloom color:
Red
Height:
3 - 4'
Bloom:
July-Aug
Hardiness:
Zone 4-9
Light:
Full Sun to Moderate shade
Soil:
Tolerates both wet & dry soils

Why you need this plant:        A long-lived, warm season grower, 'Shenandoah' is by far the best red switch grass. Green spring foliage turns deep red by mid-summer. Starts growing in late spring but definitely worth the wait!

Planting Info:       Leaves are deeper green in shade.  Moist humus soil is best but will grow in heavier soils.  Does well in humid, hot summers.  Support clump with a loop of wire to keep it erect when flowering.  It dies back in winter and needs no cutting back.
