Why you need this plant:        Displays extreme vigor.  Ruffled leaves are silvered maroon purple on top and bright purple underneath.  Appears most vibrant in spring during cooler weather and shows best color in partial shade or late afternoon shade.  Dependable in the landscape.

 
Planting Info:        Does best in rich, moist, well-drained soil.  Benefits from winter mulching to control heaving.  Divide every 4-5 years when crown becomes excessively woody.  Best propagated by divisions in spring.
