Geranium

'Rozanne'

2008 Perennial Plant of the Year

Common Name:
Cranesbill
Bloom color:
Violet-Blue
Height:
18-20"
Bloom:
Mid-June thru Oct
Hardiness:
Zone 5-8
Light:
Full to partial sun
Soil:
Any provided drainage is good, evenly moist

Why you need this plant:     Sure to become one of the best perennial geraniums available.  Large 2 1/2" violet-blue blooms form a free-flowering, spreading plant - adaptable for garden plants, or try it in a hanging basket!  Dark green foliage is lightly marbled with chartreuse, turning red in the fall.

Planting Info:       Most cranesbills thrive in evenly moist soil throughout the growing season.  When you water, soak the soil to a depth of 8-10".  Place about 2" of mulch around the base of each plant after the ground warms up in the spring to keep the soil moist and cool.  Fertilize with a 10-10-10 mix in early spring or apply compost prior to mulching just as new growth emerges.  Removing spent flowers may encourage additional bloom.  Cut back after flowering to encourage the growth of a fresh mound of foliage.  Mature plants are hardy but if winter mulch is applied, remove it as soon as the weather begins to warm up in the spring.
