| Gaura 'Crimson Butterflies'
| | Common Name: | Wand flower, Bee blossom | | Bloom color: | Dark red-pink | | Height: | 15" | | Bloom: | July-Oct | | Hardiness: | 5-10 | | Light: | Full Sun | | Soil: | Well drained - drought tolerant | Why you need this plant: This variety is about 1/4 or 1/3 the size of most Guaras and will perform well next to a path (other varieties get too large). Superb container or zeriscape gardening plant. Drought-tolerant, heat tolerant, blooms all summer into autumn & rarely afflicted by disease. | | | Planting Info: May self seed but seedlings will be regular green-leafed gauras. Dislikes being divided because the long taproot is too easily broken. Best way to propagate is by stem cuttings. Softwood or semi-hardened cuttings can be rooted spring or summer (assisted with a rooting hormone). Stems will root in four-six weeks. Best started in pots to reduce transplant injury. | |
