| Gaillardia x grandiflora'Goblin'
| | Common Name: | Meadow Cranesbill, Blanket Flower | | Bloom color: | Red with yellow tips | | Height: | 8-12" | | Bloom: | June-Sept | | Hardiness: | Zone 3-8 | | Light: | Full Sun | | Soil: | Lean, free-draining, moist | Why you need this plant: Blanket flowers are prodigious bloomers and 'Goblin' is no exception. Daisy-like blooms of red flowers fringed in yellow begin in June and will continue through the fall. 'Goblin' is considered one of the best of the Gaillardia species and because it is a dwarf variety, it will not require staking. | | | Planting Info: This summer plant thrives in full sun and will tolerate hot, dry conditions. Deadheading is optional but may be desirable for the appearance. A well-drained site is very important, particularly when overwintering. Failure for Gaillardia to return is usually due to wet overwintering conditions rather than cold temperatures. Trimming back growth in mid-fall will allow foliar growth before frost and will further overwintering efforts. | |
