| | Bloom: | June

| Why you need this plant: Spiky mounds of powder blue foliage that holds their color year around. In June, buff colored seed heads are produced and remain all summer and into winter. Considered to be the best blue variety available for its color and compact growth habit. So many varieties of blue fescue to choose from.... if in doubt, pick 'Elijah Blue'! Its leaves are a strong silver-blue. All blue fescues tend to fall apart in the heat of summer, but 'Elijah Blue' is one of the most durable. It is a definite cool season grower. Cut it back. It will revive when the weather turns cooler. | | | Planting Info: Give it a good start with a good general-purpose feed and a well-draining soil, then watch this grass take off. Not invasive and needs very little care. Because the blue color lasts through winter, it does not need to be trimmed back. Growth will slow if summer heat (over 85 degrees) is excessive, but is not harmful for the overall health of the plant. | |
