We are currently hiring for spring/summer 2011. Click here for our application. | | | Campanula poscharskyana | | Common Name: | Serbian Bellflower | | Bloom color: | Lavender-Blue | | Height: | 4-6"
| | Bloom: | May-July | | Hardiness: | Zone 3-8 | | Light: | Sun, Part Sun | | Soil: | Well-drained, fertile, neutral to alkaline soil | Why you need this plant: Pale lavender-blue, star-shaped, upward-facing flowers smother the foliage from late spring to midsummer, often repeating sporadically into fall. A vigorous spreader; use as a groundcover, let it cascade over walls, or try it in containers, even hanging baskets. Green leaves are rounded and toothed. | | | Planting Info: Encourage rebloom by cutting flower stems out after blooming. Deadheading will prolong bloom but take care not to remove unopened buds on the same stem. Foliage does not need to be pruned down in preparation for winter. The green color will last through most of the winter and usually needs no cleanup in the spring. This group of Campanula is a robust, rock garden species, and many will thrive on sunny walls or banks. They require moist, very well-drained soil and will grow in either sun or partial shade. Most members of this group appreciate some afternoon shade in southern regions. Plants can be propagated either by seed or division in early spring or early fall. | |
