Why you need this plant:        A very no-nonsense plant which adores moisture and any rough conditions you may encounter in the shade.  Will perform well in sun if its feet are kept moist.  Good ground cover if planted in mass.

 
Planting Info:       Shade to sun.  Boggy or moist soil high in organic matter.  Will tolerate standing water of several inches depth and will thrive in garden soil of average moistness.  Best at water's edge, where it spreads at a moderate pace.  Divide in spring or fall, digging up a piece of rhizome and replanting.
